This Skills Unit is based at Hammarsdale. It offers the following services:

• Pre Trade Test Assessment
• Trade Testing  (Apprenticeship and section 28)
• RPL
• Accredited training programmes to support entrepreneurship initiatives
• Roof Truss Manufacturing
• Manufacturing – basic stationery, toilet paper, paper clips, barb wire & steel nails.

Coastal KZN TVET College has programme approval status from MERSETA & CETA, and in addition to that it is accredited as a TRADE TEST CENTRE by CETA in the trades listed below :

1. CKZN OCCUPATIONAL SKILLS TRAINING & TRADE TESTING CENTRE – HAMMERSDALE

Is key in fast tracking artisan development and to enable the country to produce a capable qualified workforce which will have a significant impact on the growth of our economy and reduction of poverty.

2. TRAINING DEMONSTRATION - CUM - TRAINING CENTRE – TDTC

Provides technical skills to SMME’s to enhance their knowledge and capabilities to start and run successful businesses, with the overall view of creating employment and reducing poverty.

TDTC provides technical and entrepreneurial training in the following business ventures:

• Barbed wire making
• Wire nail manufacturing
• Mild steel wire drawing
• Exercise note book manufacturing
• Toilet Paper Making
• Staple Making
• Gem-Clip Paper Making

3. TRUSS MANUFACTURING PLANT

Currently we design and manufacture roof trusses mainly for but not limited to schools. The purpose of the truss manufacturing is to support the various Government departments’ infrastructure development programmes as well as the building of schools and renovations. Coastal College is a licensed fabricator of International Truss Systems (I.T.S) & an approved member of the Institute of Timber Construction (I.T.C).

It is our intention to offer training in the following as well viz.

• Roof Design
• Production and manufacturing (fabrication)
• Erecting and Cladding
• Roof erecting
• Roof Inspection
