Maths Equipment Launch

On 15 August 2014 Coastal KZN TVET College held the launch of its Maths equipment at Swinton Campus where the programme is piloted. A number of stakeholders and decision makers in the education system were invited to witness this occasion. The equipment was officially launched by Mr M Mthethwa, the Deputy Director in the Department of Higher Education and Training.

Coastal KZN TVET College invested in the Texas Instruments’ Learning Management System to try and improve students understanding and performance in Mathematics. It is believed that this will also go a long way in making Mathematics interesting and in encouraging students to take careers that require knowledge of Mathematics.

The decision to purchase this equipment was made after extensive investigation into how best to intervene and produce an enhancement of the mathematics learning and teaching dynamics.

Miss Sizakele Shamase who is one of the Mathematics Lecturers has a group of students who are peer tutors who were trained to use the equipment so that they assist others.

She assured her co-workers that the equipment is an excellent teaching aid. It does not replace the lecturer but supplements him and make his work easy, especially the monitoring of
individual student performance.
